Getting nearer to "SPECTRE"'s release in November, MGM Studios and 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment are releasing 2 all-new line-up of special edition blu-rays box sets featuring all 23 Bond films to date. The one with black packaging, for which this review is about, is exclusive to UK amazon, and among others it also includes digital HD copies of all 23 films, plus over 120 hours of special features, including 2 brand new featurettes, and a 98-minute documentary (see below). Also included, is a 52-page Bond mini-book featuring poster art from all films. The set comes in 3 blue plastic amaray cases (2 fat cases of 10 discs, and 1 regular of 4 - empty space is reserved for the "SPECTRE" disc) all housed in 2 cardboard cases (a thick inner case and a thin outer case, one inside the other). There are 24 discs in total, 1 for each of the 23 films, plus 1 disc with the featurettes. The bonus material is the same extras featured on the individual blu-ray releases of each film. The brand new featurettes (for which there is also a digital copy included on here) in this set are listed below.As I already have most of the DVDs, and never bought the "Bond 50" box, a box set like this was essential to me. Quite simply, "James Bond - 23 Film premium collection" is ideal for any Bond fannatics who want to have the complete JB filmography in blu-ray format and in superior quality, packed in a neat and compact single box. It is definitely well worth the upgrade from DVD, and I am saying this having only watched 3 films so far. I am thrilled by the audio and even more by the picture quality (the oldest "Dr. No" looks almost as if it was filmed recently), it is so much better than some recent versions available for streaming. I am also relieved that "GoldenEye" finally has the correct framing, since up until now I had the cropped Ultimate edition DVD. The packaging may be a lot simpler to what one would expect, but that should not detract from this fantastic collection at such a good price. Note that the UV copies included on this set are available in UK and US only. It will take a while to watch everything on here, but I will make an update once I have, or if I encouter any faults or anything worth sharing.UPDATE (8/2/2016): Having watched the entire package (and the fantastic extras - all 120 hours of them!), I am very pleased with the overall quality. Thus, I strongly recommend this to all 007 fans, despite the fact that the packaging is not impressive. Probably similar box sets will be popping up every 3-4 years or so, but for the time being this is the most comprehensive Bond box (that is the amazon exclusive black box, not the white one), and it is worth buying at this price (currently at £90 at amazon.co.uk, even with shipping costs included, paying $10 per film is a good bargain).List of contents:1.
