This stand alone DVD issued by BFI can also be purchased as part of a box set, titled BBC Ghost Stories for Christmas (Expanded six disc set) PAL ONLY (you'll need a Multi-region DVD player since these DVDs won't play on standard Region 1 DVD players commonly found in the US.The Classic Ghost Stories of MR James read by Robert Powell features : The Mezzotint , The Ash-Tree , Wailing Well , The Rose Garden and Oh, Whistle, and I'll Come to You, My Lad (1986, 5 x 14 mins)The narration by Robert Powell is one of the best productions of MR James' work: Powell has a clear ,crisp, and engaging manner of delivery that draws the listener into the story. I love putting this DVD on when I'm working on something and don't really want to get distracted by the screen. However, watching this production is also very much worth one's time: there's Powell in his learned don's attire, ensconced in his study, but at times there's also vignettes of scenes from the stories. My particular favorite is the retelling of The Mezzotint, which features the depiction of the mezzotint as it undergoes its various grotesque transformations.Spine Chillers featuring : 'The Mezzotint' , 'A School Story' and 'The Diary of Mr Poynter' (1980, 3 x 11 mins)
